Christoph Otto, born in Berlin in 1966, is an artist. His work encompasses photography, film, and spatial installations. His series of works regularly receive awards.

For thirty years, as a photographer and author, he conceived, produced, and photographed his own long-term projects for major international magazines, imbued with the subjective style of authorial photography, a style to which his analog C-prints, developed by hand, also contributed. Even during this phase, his series were exhibited internationally, including the series THE ESTONIANS, shown at the Fries Museum with subsequent stops in Mannheim, Solms, and Tokyo.

In 2020, Christoph Otto made a conscious break. Since then, he has devoted his time exclusively to large-scale artistic series and spatial installations. He develops participatory spatial installations that invite visitors to engage with their own selves and human existence, and at times hold up a mirror to them. This has resulted in works such as DAS SELBST BIST DU (YOU ARE THE SELF), which explore consciousness and one’s own sense of place. His work RAUMZEIT (SPACE-TIME) examines astronauts’ experience of space and the question of how meaningful it is to want to leave Earth and colonize new planets. In his work DIE STRASSE DER UNSCHULD (THE PATH OF INNOCENCE) for the exhibition FERIEN UNTER FRANCO, he explores dictatorial systems.

Christoph Otto’s works are exhibited internationally and are held in public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Kanazawa in Japan. In 2023, he was appointed to the German Society for Photography.
